Party Poop-Her

I have to buy Christmas presents. EEEoooouuuu. I am not a fan of Christmas. I am probably one of the few people that I know of that is not big into Christmas. I feel like it's lost most of it's significance to Hallmark and other man-made Cha-chi stuff. So go ahead and hate me if you want (which by the was is 'not having the Spirit of Christmas' if you do!). So I need to go shopping so my family won't disown me on the morning of December 25th! (Hi MOM!! LOVE YOU!!) So, if I'm gonna do this, I was thinking that it would be fun to do crazy presents. But I'm not sure what to do. I was thinking of having a life size poster made of myself so that my parents wouldn't miss me so much. What do think? Stupid? And my brother. Hmmmm...he's 28, athletic, loves organized sports, works on Wall street (I think). He's classy and does a great roast on my Dad. Don't know what to get this Brooks Brothers/Gap/Sports Freak guy.
Then there's my sister. She's 26. She's met the love of her life, so she gets nothing. (tee hee hee I'm kidding Lauren. Chill.)

Suggestions for Fun/Crazy presents?

I love Christmas now that my family has eliminated most presents. Instead, we plan something together. That may sound obvious, but we make a big deal about it. One year, we did a mystery dinner theatre where we all had to dress up. Once, we did a movie marathon. We decided to do it that way because we didn't need anymore stuff, as much as we needed to spend time loving each other. The key is that it has to be no phones or interptions or anything. Everyone in the same room doing the same thing. Maybe you could use the money to buy presents for a family in needs, and then plan an outing to deliver them together.

I don't know if that helps, but it's what has made me LOVE Christmas.

Dad- one free coupon for a cooked meal prepared by you

Brother- gift cards or money.

Sister- hmmmmm, how about some cd's?

Oh and you should really try doing your shopping online. I do 95% of my Christmas shopping online now. Its nice, secure, and no crowds to fight.

I'm not thinking too crazy right at the moment, so on a serious note, for the folks who have everything, why not donate to a worthy organization in their name?

My teenage son just had his sixteenth birthday party and he told his friends he didn't need anything. He had four close buddies over (not a big party) and three brought cards with money anyhow and one brought a card that said he had donated $20 to the Sunday Breakfast Club in Jared's name. The Sunday Breakfast Club is a inner city faith mission in Philadelphia.

Just a thought... if I think of anything crazy, I'll let you know. Your poster idea sounded fun :)

P.S. I know what you mean about it losing the meaning in all the hub-bub... Christ seems to lose center place in many ways... it's tough when you have young kids, like my six-year-old...

Dan- I like the idea of a meal, but he mostly eats salads and olives and cottage cheese no-a-days! And yes. I think this year I will try the on-line route considering I have to fly quite a ways.

Susan- You're the second person to suggest giving $$ in their name. It's something to think about! I can imagine it must be challenging when you have kids. I'll cross that road when I get to it.

You could write something for each of them. Print it on nice paper. A few years ago I rewrote the Christmas story - not the Santa one ;) - and each person was given a different viewpoint. Thru the eyes of Mary, the Wise Men, etc. Then they read "their version" aloud after they opened it. Kinda fun. Well, in my nerdy way.

As for giving, I just got a great Catalog from Harvest of Hope. You donate an amount in someone's name and they choose where they feel lead to direct their funds. There are projects all over the world they can pick from.

I think a life size poster would be fun, but then you would have to have some sort of sound chip with it set off by a motion detector....and you could have all the crazy things you say spontaneously recorded at rondom. Or maybe you should just have it belch and the shout "I'm disgusting!"
