Baby Birdies

This is a very long story...so I'm going to tell you the shorter version...

Apparently, the Woodpecker that was banging away outside my wall was chased out by another bird who invaded it's nest. That's when the Woodpecker began busting open other holes along my Condo walls.

All the fluffing and cooing noises in my wall were coming from the *Starling* couple that moved in. I had the maintenance people come and hole up my walls. But they missed a spot...the spot with the nest.

I knew I was hearing baby birds peeping in my wall, but I didn't realize it was from another bird. (Oh the racket they make at feeding time!)

So, yesterday they pulled out the nest, with 4 helpless baby Starling's inside. I was all glassy eyed and on the verge of tears. (I'm such a wuss.)

I ended up taking them to the animal hospital yesterday and then they will be transported to a bird and wildlife rehabilitation facility. Whenever I talked, they immediately started peeping, but they were so small, they sounded like a dog's squeaky chew toy. I filled a rubber glove with hot water, wrapped an elastic band around it and put the nest on top, along with towels.

Hungry little guy, huh?

(I know it only looks like there are three, but really there was four.)

What a day and what a fiasco it's been for two weeks. Actually, even months longer before that!

Oh my goodness what precious and cute things they are. You must have been struck with so many emotions at the same time. Maybe mad at the hassle but in awe at the little lives needing help. I am so glad you were able to find a solution to all of the problems.

Hello Jules- Yes, you are right about the emotions. I'm just thankful it all worked out and now I can live in PEACE AND QUIET!

Honey,
I felt so badly for you when you called, and now that I see the photos I can only imagine how much worse you actually felt. To think you had to have them taken out AND separated from their mum, and this from a girl who dove into a mucky pond to save a pigeon!!! You said you were sorry you got my genes, but I'm glad you did!! We could fill this site with other stories couldn't we!!

Mom- I'll save the other stories for the book. ;)

OMG look at those little mouths! I don't think I've ever seen anything like that from that perspective before...

Oh my, what a saga! We have a woodpecker that occasionally taps outside my teenager's room... at least he hasn't found a way inside the walls! I'm glad you had the situation resolved (I loved your woodpecker letter).

And BTW - what a nice photo you have on your site :)

Goodness, I sound like Little Red Riding Hood, what nice eyes you have my dear... lol - really, it is a very pretty picture of you.

Love ya lots!
