Save Me

I work at a Christian Pre-school. Everyday at circle time the children pray for any students that happen to be sick or have a specific prayer request. Today "Jill" asked to pray aloud for her mother who was sick.

Jill: "Dear God, please heal my mommy. (Then she looked up at one of the boys who tends to cause trouble and added) And God please help "Jack" behave himself and not do silly things."

To which Jack frowned and said...

"I'm not going to promise you that. I'm going to do silly things."

"Jack" is only five years old. But as the other teacher said "At least he knows himself."

I think that's a good point. I'll take a lesson from him today. To know that I will do "silly" things on my own, without the help of God to save me from myself.

I respect "Jack" who does not make promises he can't keep. May that be a trait he carries with him all his life.

One of the best things about working with kids is the awesomeness that comes out of their mouths! I miss teaching first grade b/c the kids always had the best one-liners! Also, they would always disclose too much info. Info. you could be sure their parents would prefer they not share outside of the family... Ahhh Kids. Gotta love 'em!

This makes me want to actually use my degree in education and become what I think I was born to be. A history teacher!

Good post Colleen, love it.

Colleen this sweet post reminded me of a line in my favorite hymn, best sung by Sara Groves by the way :)

Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it,
Prone to leave the God I love;
Here's my heart, O take and seal it;
Seal it for Thy courts above.

Dawn-Sometimes I wish I could fast forward 20 yrs and see what these kids are going to look like when they grow up!

Holly-oh yeah, i think it's hilarious when they disclose to much info, like when one kid I was a nanny for told me that her Daddy had really stinky farts. That was the day I thought "Mental note to self, do not pass gas around the children for fear of them telling their parents the same thing about me!"

Dan- Quite interesting! Didn't know you had a dergee in Education...can I have it? (JK) I'm about to hunker down and possibly do it myself.

Colleen- Love Sarah Groves voice!

Oh my, my youngest could be named Jack... (smile) Silly as a whip... are whips silly? No that's smart as a whip. He's that too which leads to boredom quickly...
